22 Year Headache

by JoeDubin

Being in sports talk and doing this for a long time, I get asked from time to time, what is the loudest stadium I have ever been in.  For me it is pretty simple and it applies to this weekend.  Florida vs. Tennessee, October 13th,1990 at Neyland Stadium on a Saturday night. Steve Spurrier's first year as head coach at Florida and the Gators were ranked 9th, the Vols, 5th.

It was a tight game for the first half but the opening kickoff in the second half, it changed in about 10 seconds.  Or what I like to call it, when my headache started.  Florida kicked off to the Vols and Dale Carter bumbled the ball for UT.  He quickly picked up and ran over about 45 Gators to the end zone.  The crowd went absolutely nuts.  I could not hear the person sitting next to me.  It was like being at a Motley Crue concert and sitting in the front row.  Yes, that loud.

Will it be that loud on Saturday night in Neyland when the 18th ranked Gators come to take on the 23rd ranked Vols?  Not sure, but for Vols fans, they are hoping for the same result, just like 22 years ago.
