I ran across this the other day and was pretty amazed by this kid.
His name is Julian Newman from Downey Christian in Orlando. It’s a small independent school that doesn’t fall under the rules of the main state association. (ie TSSAA)
With that being said, he plays high school basketball and is only in the fifth grade.
Newman is just 4-foot-5, plays point guard and holds his own against high school juniors and seniors. His father, Jamie Newman, is the head coach of the team and said that his son has been playing against superior competition since he was three years old.
Take a look at this kid.
On the court, he reminds me of a Muggsy Bogues slashing through defenders right before he would loft a high arching runner over an approaching center.
Bogues was 5-foot-3 going up against seven footers and having success.
Newman will have plenty of time to grow and catch up to his competition but he's doing a pretty good job so far.
Here is his ball handling skills.
