Goodell Thinking About Expanding Playoffs

by ZachBingham

NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell has gone on record saying that he would like to get rid of kickoffs to help the safety of the league.

Now Goodell wants to expand the playoffs.

On Wednesday, Goodell told reporters that the league has looked into the idea before but hasn’t pulled the trigger.

"Right now we're with 12 teams obviously. We'll look at probably 14 or 16 teams," Goodell said.

Fourteen or sixteen teams would bring in a considerable amount of new profit but seems to be just a money grab.

With the NCAA expanding to a four-team playoff in 2014, that kind of expansion helps create a definite champion. This kind of expansion helps the owners grow their pockets.

Parity is the #1 thing that the NFL has over all other sports. Since 1976, ten different wild card teams have gone on to play in a Super Bowl and six of those won.

With a bigger playoff format, there will be more wild card teams but it will take away the end of the year excitement of ‘win and you're in’. Instead, the main focus of games in December will be jockeying for playoff position.

Better odds for the Titans or the team that you pull for but is it a good idea?
