Gus Malzahn will return to the plains and become the head coach of the Auburn Tigers.
Leading Arkansas State to a 9-3 record and a Sun Belt title this year, Malzahn will replace former head coach Gene Chizik.
Chizik was shown the door after a 3-9 season, going 0-8 in the SEC. The Tigers hope to get the highflying offense that Malzahn had with his time at Tulsa, Auburn and Arkansas State. Last season, Auburn was 114th in the nation in points scored.
When Malzahn left Auburn, he was the highest paid assistant coach in the nation, making $1.3 million in annual salary.
One of the biggest questions will be how this hire is received by the Auburn fan base.
