Back in 2009, on signing day, a young running back from Louisiana named Eddie Lacy faced a tough decision. He was the 13th best RB in the country and was his college choice came down to Alabama and Tennessee. On signing day, Lacy chose Alabama.
He redshirted in 2009, and played behind Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson in 2010. Ingram went pro after that year and Richardson and Lacy shared the spotlight. Then Richardson gets drafted by the Cleveland Browns. Eddie Lacy became the feature back, although he split playing time this past season too.
He had an outstanding year. Rolled over Georgia in the SEC Championship game for 180 yards and did the same to Notre Dame in the national championship game, earning MVP honors.
Back to signing day again. On that day, Lacy chose Alabama. But in April, Tennessee should choose Lacy. That's right. In the NFL draft, the Titans with the 10th pick, should take Eddie Lacy.
Now you are going to tell me that the Titans need help on defense and on the offensive line, etc. I know that. And you are all right. But this is a draft off the field as much as on the field. Let me explain. There are a lot of rabid Alabama fans in our area. Titans draft Lacy, Alabama fans in middle Tennessee will buy tickets to the games. They will buy his jersey. This is a PR move as much as anything. Lacy is definitely worth it. Big time power running back and remember, Chris Johnson's best years were in 2008 and 2009, when he was splitting time with LenDale White.
The Titans franchise, for the first time ever since moving to Tennessee, are facing a battle off the field they have never faced before. Not saying Lacy corrects all of that, but it goes a long way, a very long way, in the right direction.
So, with the 10th pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, the Tennessee Titans select Alabama running back Eddie Lacy.
The ticket line forms to the right folks.
