The Titans (4-9) host the New York Jets (6-7) tonight under the bright lights of LP Field.
It is a hard situation for Tennessee fans because the better that they do to close out the year, the worst first round draft selection they will get.
And by their performances this year, they need a high draft pick.
The Jets are still in the playoff hunt and look for ‘Gang Green’ to give their best effort on national television. Sanchez and company are coming off of two straight victories to (2-12) Jacksonville and (5-9) Arizona.
And after tonight’s primetime matchup with the five-win Titans, New York has an easy road with (5-9) San Diego and (5-9) Buffalo for their last two.
The Jets will try to exploit a Titans defense that ranks 28th in total yards allowed and take advantage of quarterback Jake Locker, in only his ninth career start.
Locker has had his ups and downs in 2012 but gaining experience each week has been key to his development.
“The biggest learning curve this season has just been, week in and week out. Last year it was preparing like I might get a chance to play, never really knowing,” Locker said. “Now it’s just a grind of knowing you’re the guy week in and week out and preparing with the same amount of energy and focus every week.”
It seemed like the Titans had more of a light-hearted mood around Baptist Sports Park, as running back Chris Johnson pulled his best impression of Ricky Williams by leaving his helmet on to talk to the media.
Williams use to don his head protector during interviews because it gave him a sense of comfort. Williams was later diagnosed with social anxiety disorder.
Johnson said some of his teammates kept on asking him to do it, so finally this week he did.
Tennessee will need to turn that light-hearted mind set into concentrated focus tonight at 7:30pm to avoid at least ten losses in two out of the last three seasons.
