The Predators are 13 games into this 48 game shorten season and two players really stand out thus far.
Colin Wilson and Pekka Rinne.
It was expected from Pekka after Nashville signed him to a 7 year, $49 million deal back in November of 2011.
He has been worth every penny.
1st in goals allowed, only giving up 1.8 per game, the Preds are hanging tough in a vicious Central division. In the Western Conference, four out of the top seven teams come from the central and as usual, Nashville is right smack dab in middle.
When Nashville gave Shea Weber the ‘keys to the vault’ this past season, they made a commitment to have their young talent bring them the rest of the way.
In the month of February, Colin Wilson got that memo.
Wilson has 7 total points in the month of February with 3 goals and 4 assists. He leads the team in scoring percentage, 23.5, only taking 17 shots on the year, which is 11 less than ‘The Captain’, who leads the team with 28.
Earning the three-year, $6 million contract he signed in the offseason, Wilson is carrying the torch when it comes to this team’s offense.
Prior to Wilson’s overtime goal to beat the Sharks 1-0 on Tuesday, Nashville went 8-plus periods without a puck in the back of the net.
“We need to be scoring and when you go that long, especially at home, we need to fix something,” Wilson said. “ We were getting pucks and bodies to the net and that’s what the goal ended up being. So I think we are going to be able to build off of that."
And the road doesn’t get any easier. Nashville hosts the Coyotes tonight, who have beaten the Preds five out of the last six meetings.
This morning in the Wendy’s 1st Quarter, our guys interviewed Preds play-by-play man Pete Weber who talked about tonight’s battle vs Phoenix and Colin Wilson’s recent success.
